   Antarctica Journey – Drake Passage

Two days we danced on Drake’s wild back, like riding horses on a shifting track, or swaying softly in a restless sleep, cradled by waves so cold and deep.

But lucky I was no sickness came,
just wonder rising with each wave’s name.

I walked the decks and breathed the chill, the sea alive, the air so still.

Then white appeared pure, grand, austere, a frozen dream so crystal clear.

Whales breached near, with curious grace, a gentle eye, a smiling face.

Seals lounged on floes like lazy kings,
penguins waddled in little rings, birds soared above in winds so bold, and glaciers carved the tales they told.

Icebergs drifted, blue and wide, like drifting cities on the tide.

Zodiacs danced in icy bays, where whales came close in playful ways.

Their breath like thunder, tails held high Perhaps a greeting, or just goodbye.

The penguins stared with open eyes,
as if we’d fallen from their skies.

We passed the stations, flags held tight,
braving science, wind, and light.

A fragile world, yet strong and wise,
beneath the vast antarctic skies.

And then we turned, the journey back,
another ride on ocean’s track.

But now with stories, stars, and grace,
that only the brave and lucky face.

For in that cold, unyielding land,
we touched the edge of nature’s hand
and came back changed, both still and stirred, with hearts full of the southern word.

Pasamos estaciones, banderas erguidas,
desafiando ciencia, viento y vidas.
