Walking the Portuguese Coastal Camino from Porto to Santiago de Compostela was a journey filled with wonder, kindness, and quiet joy.

With the Atlantic Ocean always at my side, offering breathtaking sunsets, I followed the path through villages and cities, crossing from Portugal into Spain on a small boat—a simple crossing that felt like a passage between worlds. Along the way strangers became friends, offering embraces and pointing the way, their Buen Camino greetings as sincere as the sea breeze.

The green wine, the fresh seafood, the fish farms on peaceful rivers, and the oyster beds spoke of the land’s generosity. I met pilgrims who shared their stories with openness and laughter, including by sheer chance Michelle, whom I had met on the Camino del Norte, still walking step by step after knee surgery—a reminder of courage. And Adolfo, on his bicycle, who later joined me in Santiago as we reflected on all we had seen and felt.

From Porto’s shores to Compostela’s cathedral, the Portuguese Coastal Camino was not just a walk—it was a gift.

Caminar el Camino Portugués de la Costa desde Oporto hasta Santiago de Compostela fue un viaje lleno de asombro, bondad y una alegría serena.

Con el océano Atlántico siempre a mi lado, regalando atardeceres impresionantes, seguí el sendero por pueblos y ciudades, cruzando de Portugal a España en una pequeña barca—un cruce sencillo que se sintió como un pasaje entre mundos. En el camino, los desconocidos se hicieron amigos, ofreciendo abrazos y señalando la ruta, sus saludos de Buen Camino tan sinceros como la brisa marina.

El vino verde, los mariscos frescos, las piscifactorías en ríos tranquilos y los bancos de ostras hablaban de la generosidad de la tierra. Conocí peregrinos que compartieron sus historias con apertura y risas, incluyendo, por pura casualidad, a Michelle, a quien había conocido en el Camino del Norte, aún caminando paso a paso tras una cirugía de rodilla—un recordatorio de valentía. Y a Adolfo, en su bicicleta, quien más tarde se unió a mí en Santiago mientras reflexionábamos sobre todo lo que habíamos visto y sentido.

Desde las orillas de Oporto hasta la catedral compostelana, el Camino Portugués de la Costa no fue solo una caminata—fue un regalo.
